The accident of the Smart Air cargo plane at Aminggaru Illaga Airport Papua on Monday (10/25/2021) morning was caused by fog that enveloped the airport. Airport authorities temporarily closed flight operations.
“Due to the incident, the airport’s operations are currently temporarily closed as cleaning is still being carried out,” said Aminggaru Airport Head, Herman Sujito.
According to Herman, the accident was suspected to have been caused by the fog that was seen covering the airport this morning. As a result of the incident, the pilot of the plane named Kuntardi died after being evacuated to the Ilaga Health Center .
Meanwhile, the co-pilot Egie is conscious but is still being treated at the local health center.
“The plane was only carrying cargo from Timika,” said Puncam Police Chief Kompol Nyoman Punia.
