KKB Papua Admits Shooting One TNI Soldier to Death in Yahukimo

The West Papua National Liberation Army Free Papua Organization ( TPNPB-OPM ) claimed responsibility for the shooting that killed one TNI member  and injured another in Yahukimo Regency, Papua on Saturday (20/11).

“The management of KOMNAS TPNPB-OPM Headquarters has received an official report from the TPNPB leadership of Kodap 16 Yahukimo that they are responsible for shooting dead a TNI member and another with gunshot wounds, on Saturday, November 20, 2021,” quoted from a written statement submitted Spokesperson for TPNPB-OPM Sebby Sambom, Monday (22/11).

In the written statement, it was stated that the Commander of the 16 Yahukimo Regional Defense Command, Brigadier General Elkius Kobak, claimed responsibility for the shooting that occurred at 08.00 WIT in the Suru-suru area, which is the war area of ​​the Yamue Battalion.

This was conveyed by Elkius after communicating via a satellite cellphone with the Yamue Battalion Operations Commander, Kopy Tua Heluka.

“That the shooting of two members of the group, namely the TNI/Polri, was true and my troops were the ones who shot,” the statement was quoted as saying.

Contacted separately, Kapendam XVII/Cenderawasih Lieutenant Colonel Arm Reza Nur Patria confirmed that there had been a shooting by the Separatist Terrorist Group (KST) in Suru-Suru District, Yahukimo Regency on Saturday (20/11).

“There has been a shooting by the Terrorist Separatist Group (KST) against the personnel of the Territorial Apparatus BKO Unit (Apter) of the Suru-Suru Preparatory Koramil, which resulted in 2 victims (1 dead and 1 injured),” Reza said in a written statement, Monday (22/11).
